The machines are freeware, not to be distrubted in any commercial means without each developer's rights. The thin shell - the buzz engine is not open source, but machines can be coded using several tutorials/sample code - search developer links on buzzmachines.com. There have been several methods to still alter the buzz engine through the use of machines, wrappers, external programs to edit bmx files, etc which has proved oskari's original model to be rather semi-flexible and modified. --- Any music you make with buzz - Completely unproblematic and legal to sell it however you wish. --- Any samples you use with buzz and release on commercial projects - make sure they are copyright free - royalty free. --- Any bmx, mp3, dll, prs, etc files you download, are not your property to make money with, get the author's concent. --- It is always nice to Donate to the buzz community - be it small cash donations to particular developers (NOT just oskari-he hasn't really done any buzz machine coding for 2 years now other than XS1) - for example Polac Vsti Loader is created by Polac, a very nice person who coded a wonderfully useful buzz machine. (there are about 100+ developers who have coded different things for buzz in all sorts of levels of effort). The most deserved coders are BTDSys, Polac, Zephod, Cyanphase, Ld0d, Rymix, Whitenoise, FSM, Firesledge, Surfsmurf, Joachim, and so many others --- A myth - You own the copyright on your own recordings by default. If you think you might need to prove that you made the track, make a copy of your track (cd/tape) and mail it to yourself in a closed envelope. Don't open the envelope and when in the future you need to prove you made the track just show the date on the envelope. There is probably an organisation in your country which enforces your copyright, gives you money when your track is used and so on. Joining one might give you access to a free music business lawyer, who you can use to proofread your deals, and other nice perks. Joining one usually costs some money, but if you get a record deal joining probably pays back pretty quickly. --- I'm not sure about in other countries, but if you're in the United States, the old idea of mailing the tape to yourself and not opening it (i.e. the "poor man's copyright") is a myth and invalid. --- Here's the links to get information on copyrites from the United States Copyrite Office (Library of Congress): http://www.loc.gov/copyright/ http://www.loc.gov/copyright/faq.html http://www.loc.gov/copyright/circs/circ1.html and others: Info on copyright myths (including the "poor man's copyright"): http://www.sfwa.org/beware/copyright.html#Myths http://ezine-tips.com/list-tips/list-resources/20000721.shtml http://www.mycounsel.com/content/intelprop/copyright/register/file.html --- Do a Web Search for specifics. |
