It is similar to Linux in that several different people/developers have worked on its structure. Some develop in their spare time, some have gone on to commercial projects which are widely-used vsts now. Oskari created the main engine of buzz which is probably not going to change. It is freeware, modular, supports a ton of plugin formats, has great VST support, has a ton of hacks, flips, switches, buttons, nuances, and an exceptionally newly developing PEER field (trackers controlling trackers, machines controlling machines), etc. Being modular and freeware, there are really no guarantees. It has been known to crash, sizzle, and burn but is still used by almost 10,000 - 20,000 people around the world from their computers, many of them without any other gear or with a ton of other gear. If you are looking for a tracking/creation/synthesis tool all in one and you are ready to experiment, Buzz is your number one choice (there is a learning curve). So there are some general 'rules' that can help prevent crashes, noisebursts - 1) Save, SAVE, SAVE, SAVE - and in stages, can't stress this one enough, usual file sizes are not large and with today's GB-GB harddrives, save - name1.bmx, name2.bmx, name3.bmx and often or risk losing your work - so SAVE 2) It is not best to flip through 10 straight bmx files, the safest bet is to use cntrl f4 to close a file, reopen buzz, and cntrl o, load a new file .... this prevents noisebursts, crashes, mutings, etc. 3) Don't use buzz at an extremely huge volume on your monitors, being a bizarrely strong synthesis setup, there is no limitations - sonic synthesized rumbles can blow your mind (headphones) and speakers so be warned. 4) Win2k/XP - Set your compatability mode to NT/98 - right click on buzz.exe and modify, Win98 - no changes really But for both run fixkit 5) Cheapo FixKit is a very handy tool that will solve many of buzz startup problems. Read its help file for more information. 6) Cheapo Fixer Pro (an effect machine) can be put in front of other machines (such as EQ7) to decrease its CPU load. 7) Keep Task Manager open, just in case you get a cpu surge (from a problematic machine), you will be able to close buzz, but thats no big deal, because you saved your file in multiple stages right ?
