Humanization - Adding Groove

And this Review as well
---
At face value it seems I can only produce a sound at a tick. But what if I want to produce a sound somewhere in between two ticks?
---
Very basic and easy : in MOST trackers, "note delay" exists (ED in matilde, OD in Jeskola tracker, also be sure to set your subdivision value).
---
Double your TPB - 4 is good for the lazy, 8 is good for good effects, 16 is for the ambitious.
---
USR completed a midi wrapper that added note delay (among other things) to the track params of ALL MACHINES! (BIG CHANGE!!) - usr's uMw Midi Wrapper also provides rock solid midi support for ALL machines!
---
Polac vsti does this wonderfully already (triplets) - it has its own column for delay in percentage
---
Peerchord also has various settings for note delay even randomize. You can also vary note cut values with more flair. Peer machines control other machines in buzz's setup.
---
Peerlfo can be used to set the roof and the basement of the numbers you want (usually within a few digits of each other - for a simple, subtle, humanisitic effect)
---
Peerlfo can even be assigned to track commands, so for instance you can alter the velocity for your drum or synth samples/generators. Then you can add tracks to peerlfo and assign them to attack/decay/sustain/release/velocity/etc for more nuances
---
You can set a BPM/TPB shuffle with 2nd Process's Igroove machine for the whole track. You can then record the values to a master pattern or create your own to prevent synchronization problems. ---
How Note Delays work depends on machine. On some it depends on the subtick amount to delay the note. Some machines let you define how many subticks are in a tick called tick subdivision Buzz Generators except for the trackers, hd303, and a few others didn't have note delay/subdivision - until Usr's uMw came around :)
---
Note delay and retrig. Vary the velocity also.
---
Mixampler 8 - random delay on each tick
---
Is there a way to cominbe the cntrl I and cntrl R (interpolation and random) functions ?
---
Well...Let's say you want randomness between 11 and 39 you'd go:
2132331231213123121313123113123 in the first column. and 541269546197549164918264978162496 in the second column!
(Banging your keyboard viciously). I know, I'm being stupid. But it works! or use Peerlfo (template with some frequent velocity, delay, etc variations)
---
The CnW Turbion series uses this concept.
----
To make a beat feel lazy delay the snare drum after the beat by a small amount (put the snare thru a delay line with no dry mix and no feedback); To make a beat feel anxious make the snare before the beat a small amount (you could do this easily by putting the rest of the track thru a delay minus the snare)
---
If you have say a fast roll or something (anything really, its just more noticeable on fast rolls), if its 100% quantized it'll sound like a drum machine. so you need to make it all a bit out of time. If u use matilde, you can use a high subtick divide (0F XX) then use note delay a lot (ED XX) with fairly small values, and put it on every note with different delay amounts of time. Then, its all a little bit wobbly and sounds more realistic.
---
Fuzzpilz Unwieldy Tracker has a ton of humanization effects that breathe life into drum samples :)
---
Fuzzpilz Fudrum2 has a real nice retrigger. Triplets and way more ! Blurr your samples with crazy subdivision values.
---
You can really push the limits - 16000 RPM speed (500 BPM * 32 TPB)?
4000 BPM song tempo - that should really be fast enough. ;-)
